Important Update on Lead Service Line Inventory
March 29, 2025As you may recall a couple years ago efforts began in an attempt to reduce speeds on our two major highways coming in and out of the Village. Here is the latest update:
DOT Speed Study Results and Speed Limit Changes
After conducting a speed study and working with the DOT over the past couple of years, the Village has made progress in reducing speed limits in certain areas. Although the results did not entirely meet our original goals, we consider this a step forward. Here is a summary of the changes:
Changes by Location
- North Leg of USH 12:
- No change in speed limit was required, but a minor adjustment will be made to move the existing sign to the tangent of the curve.
- The sign will also be upsized.
- South Leg of USH 12:
- The existing 30-mph zone will be adjusted to start approximately 80 feet south of Mill Street.
- A new 45-mph speed zone will be added, extending from 80 feet south of Mill Street to just south of Castle Hill Road (approximately 0.30 miles).
- East Leg of STH 95:
- The existing 45-mph zone will be reduced to 40 mph.
- West Leg of STH 95:
- A transitional 45-mph speed zone will be added, extending from Houghton Street west for a distance of 0.30 miles.
- The existing 35-mph speed zone will be adjusted approximately 170 feet to the east.
Monitoring and Future Changes
Although the speed increase on the southern leg of USH 12 was not our original intention, it reflects the existing speeds in the area. The Village and the DOT will closely monitor this change and reassess if future adjustments are necessary.
