$1,000 SCHOLARSHIP: POWERING THE NEXT GENERATION
March 2, 2026With a significant winter storm approaching, the Village of Merrillan is asking all residents and utility customers to prepare for challenging conditions. Please review the following updates and safety reminders:
⚡ Power Outage PreparednessThe combination of heavy, wet snow and high winds creates a high risk for power outages. Please plan accordingly:
* Ensure flashlights have fresh batteries and your devices are fully charged.
* Keep a supply of non-perishable food and water on hand.
* Be Patient: While our crews will be working as quickly as possible, restoration efforts may take longer than usual due to hazardous travel and wind conditions.
🚗 Snow Emergency ParkingTo allow our plows to clear the streets safely and effectively, we need your cooperation:
* Remove all vehicles from the roadway and parking lanes immediately.
* Please utilize off-street parking until the storm has passed and streets are fully cleared.
* Vehicles left on the street hinder plowing efforts and create safety hazards for emergency vehicles.
❄️ Travel & Public SafetyIf the snowfall reaches predicted levels, keeping up with accumulation will be a challenge for all local municipalities.
* Stay Home: For your safety and the safety of others, please avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
* Clear the Way: Limiting traffic helps our Police, Fire, and Ambulance crews respond to emergencies without delay.
* Respect Our Crews: Public Works and Public Safety teams will be working around the clock—please give them plenty of space to work.Stay safe, stay warm, and thank you for your cooperation!
