Don’t Let Cold Weather Catch You Unprepared! ❄️
January 22, 2026UPDATE 10:20AM CST – The generation alert has been allowed to expire at this time. Just like anytime the temperatures are very low, or high, system load increases. It is always wise to attempt to conserve energy regardless of generation alerts.
Dairyland Power and MISO have issued a Maximum Generation Event effective this morning, January 24, 2026. The Village will be taking active measures from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM CST.
What this means for you:
Due to forced generation outages and below-normal temperatures, the regional power grid is nearing its capacity. To help alleviate this stress and protect our local system, the Village is activating our diesel generator to assist with the load during this peak window.
Potential for Power Outages:
While our goal is to keep the lights on, the grid is currently under extreme strain. Please be aware that power could go out or rolling blackouts may occur without advance warning if regional demand exceeds supply.
How you can help (Reduce Energy Usage):
We are asking all residents and businesses to practice conservative measures between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM to help stabilize the grid and ensure our generator can pick up the load, helping avoid a localized power outage:
- Postpone laundry and dishwashing until after the alert window.
- Lower thermostats and turn off non-essential lights.
- Limit use of other large appliances and electronics.
Safety Reminder:
Residents who rely on life-sustaining medical equipment should ensure their backup plans are ready in case of an unplanned outage.
We appreciate your immediate help in conserving energy to help avoid outages!
